TELL CONGRESS: INTERNET ACCESS IS A BASIC RIGHT

The Internet is essential for most of us in our everyday lives. For millions of households, this access could be cut off after April 2024.

The Affordable Connectivity Program helps over 22 million households stay connected to the Internet by discounting the cost. But this program is at risk. Without immediate action from Congress, it could end, possibly disconnecting millions from the Internet and impacting their access to education, work opportunities, and other essential information.

Contact your representatives now telling them to help keep us connected.

Introduce yourself, be polite, and say:

“I’m contacting you as a concerned constituent of your district to urge you to support funding for the Affordable Connectivity Program or ACP before it runs out in just two weeks.

Internet access is so important in our digital world and one in six US households use this subsidy to connect. This is a very popular and bipartisan program, but if Congress doesn’t fund it soon, millions of Americans on tight budgets could lose that affordable access. We can’t let that happen.

Time is running out. Please find a funding vehicle to extend the ACP. Thank you for your attention to this issue.”

WHY DOES SAVING THE ACP MATTER?

The ACP is the only federal program that helps lower-income families afford high-speed internet and devices. Millions of people rely on the Internet for daily tasks like doing homework, accessing libraries, and reaching their friends and family. They use the Internet to research their polling unit and access news and information on what’s happening in their communities.

Kicking millions of low income individuals and families off the internet just before a major election isn’t just unfair, it’s a danger to democracy. Failure by Congress to fund this program will force millions of people already on tight budgets to pay more for Internet service or make the difficult choice between Internet access and other essential services.

If you believe everyone should have access to the Internet, call or send a message to your representative right now telling them to take action.
