Last week, we made this mock up of the type of billboard we might run about Senator Cruz to advocate for net neutrality by calling out how much money the Cruz campaign has taken from the telecommunications industry. On February 14, Gigi Sohn, a strong net neutrality advocate nominated by the Biden administration to the Federal Communications Commission, was subjected to a third confirmation hearing. At the hearing, Senator Cruz attempted to “gotcha” Sohn for making small year-end donations to Fight for the Future by trying to demonstrate our “bias” with our previous crowdfunded billboards—only to prove that we call out corruption regardless of a politician’s party. Senator Cruz noted that Fight was “quite remarkable” for having “blasted members of this committee on both sides of the aisle.” Because Senator Cruz seemed to love/hate our billboards so much, we thought we might roll one out just for him.
