Forced to get creative as Big Tech giants continue to spend tens of millions lobbying against bipartisan antitrust bills S. 2992 and S. 2710, digital rights group Fight for the Future commissioned an airplane to fly over New York beaches over the busy Labor Day weekend with a banner speaking directly to the Senate Majority Leader. It read: “SCHUMER: HELP NY WORKERS, NOT BIG TECH.”

“It’s been months since Senator Schumer promised a vote on two bills to rein in Big Tech monopolies, it’s time for him to either schedule a vote, or just openly admit that he’s scuttling the bills as a favor to Google, Facebook, and Amazon,” said Evan Greer (she/her), director of Fight for the Future. “We can’t afford to wait any longer. Big Tech’s assault on our democracy and online freedom is a crisis for humanity. Everyone knows if these bills go to the floor they will pass. No elected official wants to be exposed as a shill for Big Tech just before a tight election year. History will not look kindly on Schumer if he runs out the clock on these bipartisan bills in order to maintain a cozy relationship with the likes of Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg.”
